Price honored for Iowa Broadcasting Archives work
A Veteran Iowa newsman and Wartburg College professor emeritus of communication arts has received the Midwest Archives Conference President’s Award.
Grant Price was presented with the award April 18 in Louisville, Ky.
Price was nominated by Dr. Jeff Stein, R.J. McElroy Executive in Residence and assistant professor of communication arts, and David McCartney, University of Iowa archivist and member of the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting National Advisory Board.
Works every day at the archives
Their nomination focused on Price’s work to found and develop the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting, located on the third floor of the Vogel Library at Wartburg College. In his retirement, Price remains a supporter of the archives and has donated hundreds of hours to the facility.
In 1993, the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting was established in the Vogel Library. Today, the archives facility houses more than 1,500 linear feet of historical records, including 100-plus oral history interviews, photographs, historical documents, artifacts and news films and video recordings from television and radio stations across Iowa.
Extensive resume
Price He spent 14 years at Wartburg College, serving as R.J. McElroy Executive in Residence and chair of the Communication Arts Department. He was instrumental in developing the college’s television program and station, WTV-8. He retired in 2005 and continues his work in the Archives of Iowa Broadcasting.
Price has an extensive background in television and radio. He was vice president for news and public affairs at KWWL-TV and the former Black Hawk Broadcasting Company in Waterloo from 1972-89. Prior to that, he served as director of news services at the former WMT TV stations in Cedar Rapids from 1961-72. He was a reporter at the WMT stations from 1959-60.
He is a past winner of the IBNA's Jack Shelley Award.
