AWARDS CONTEST
TO: Iowa Broadcast Journalists
FR: Jeff Stein, IBNA
DA: December 2011
RE: News Awards Contest
We are pleased to provide information concerning the Iowa Broadcast News Association’s annual news contest and awards program. As part of its mission to further electronic media journalism, IBNA
sponsors several programs, including recognizing excellence in Iowa
broadcast news through these coveted annual awards.
Information about the 2011 IBNA News Awards Contest is posted
on this site; information will not be sent via U.S. mail this year,
and is only available electronically.
The postmark deadline for entries is January 31, 2012.
There are many categories in which a station or individual may
enter, including Best Newscast, Best Sportscast and Overall
Excellence.
This year, there is a change in how you submit your entries.
You may continue to mail CDs (radio) or DVDs (television), or else
you can post your entry on line and send us the URL instead. There
is no preference from IBNA's viewpoint; we simply wanted to give
entrants an additional way to submit entries.
This is also the second year of eligibility for web-only
entries. In addition to radio and television divisions, there is now
a separate division for “online” material—that material which was
posted as part of a news organization’s internet-based efforts. This
division will be in place for a total of three years, after which
the IBNA board will determine if it will become permanent.
All entries must have been broadcast or posted during calendar year 2011, with one exception. Given that the Iowa Caucuses are so
early in 2012, those entries in "political reporting" may either be
aired during 2011, or between January 1-4, 2012. All entries must be
submitted as they actually aired, without later editing.
There are now 16 categories in both radio and television, with large market, small market, and student divisions for each medium; there are 4 categories in online with all entrants in the same division, regardless of market size/professional status. Fees must accompany your entries, and entries must be submitted under the name of a 2012 dues-paying IBNA member. Awards will be presented at the annual IBNA convention, to be held in Coralville on Saturday, April 28, 2012.
Send your news contest entries to me at the IBNA post office box address listed on the entry form; please do not use any other address for mailing entries.
If you have questions about any of this, please reach me via email at ibna@ibna.org or by phone at (319) 230-8988. We look forward to another great competition.
